Withdrawal of $10,000 Currency Notes

The Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, AMBD announced that effective from the 2nd of November 2020, the 10 thousand dollars currency note will no longer be issued to all banks in Brunei Darussalam and subsequently, will be withdrawn from circulation.

However, the 10 thousand dollars currency note will remain legal tender and will retain full face value. The decision to withdraw the currency note is one of the steps taken by AMBD to reduce the risks associated with financial crimes such as money laundering, terrorism financing and counterfeiting of high denominations currency notes. In the meantime, AMBD encourages the public to use various alternative payment methods available in Brunei Darussalam such as debit or credit cards and online payments for high value transactions. AMBD remains committed to the financial stability of Brunei Darussalam, and to safeguarding Brunei Darussalam’s financial system and the interests of financial consumers. For enquiries, contact AMBD at 2388388 or email to ‘info@ambd.gov.bn’.
