World Heart Day 2023

Cardiovascular diseases is the second leading cause of death in Brunei Darussalam after cancer. The increased number of people with cardiovascular disease from year to year is very concerning. For the past decade, said disease has affected the younger age group, causing economic and social strain to the society. This was stated in the Minister of Health's message in conjunction with the World Heart Day 2023.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar explained that this year, the World Heart Day's theme was 'Use Heart Know Heart.' It focused on knowing one's own heart and ways to take care of heart health, such as raising awareness and increasing knowledge on cardiovascular diseases, and measures to prevent it.

As part of the efforts to encourage all walks of life in the country to practise a healthy lifestyle, the Ministry of Health introduced two new initiatives in the BruHealth application, namely the BN On The Move 2023 aimed to boost the community's physical activity level by increasing the daily steps taken. Meanwhile, the Health Index and Risk Assessment's goal was to encourage the public to assess their own health status and undergo health screening.
