Danger level heat index forecast in 30 areas; fair weather continues

MANILA: At least 30 areas are forecast to experience danger level heat index, while the country will continue to experience fair weather with isolated rain showers, the weather bureau said Monday. The highest heat index could peak at 47 degrees in Dagupan City, Pangasinan and Aparri, Cagayan. Heat indices or what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air, ranging from 42 to 45 degrees are forecast in these areas: NAIA Sinait, Ilocos Sur Laoag, Ilocos Norte MMSU Batac, Ilocos Norte Bacnotan, La Union Tuguegarao City, Cagayan ISU Echague, Isabela Baler, Aurora Casiguran, Aurora Cubi Point, Subic Bay, Olongapo City Sangley Point, Cavite Ambulong, Tanauan Batangas San Jose, Occidental Mindoro Puerto Princesa, Palawan Cuyo, Palawan Daet, Camarines Norte Virac, Catanduanes Masbate City CBSUA-Pili Camarines Sur Roxas City, Capiz Iloilo City Dumangas, Iloilo Catarman, Northern Samar Catbalogan, Samar Tacloban, Leyte Borongan, Estern Samar G uiuan, Eastern Samar Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte Earlier, the weather bureau's chief Nathaniel Servando said places that are flat, near coastal areas, and surrounded by mountains or valleys, will consistently have high heat indices likely until the second half of May. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said under danger level or 41°C to 51°C heat indices, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely. Continued exposure to the sun could also cause heat stroke. Meanwhile, fair weather will prevail across the archipelago on Monday, with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.
