1st National ICT Hackathon

Bruneians need to shift from nearly being consumers of technology to being innovative producers who can create new technologies, intellectual properties, products and ultimately opportunities for growth in order to develop the nation's contributions towards the global Digital Economy.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel Retired Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin Bin Haji Umar, the minister of energy and industry at the prime minister's office made the remarks yesterday at the launching of the ' b {code} Brunei 1st National ICT HACKATHON '.

The 2 month long ICT hackathon competition is to encourage innovation, stimulate ideas and drive creativity by tackling and finding solutions to the challenges that Brunei Darussalam is currently facing through the use of information and communication Technology, ICT. The competition which is organised jointly by the E-Government National Centre and Energy and Industry Department in collaboration with Microsoft Brunei Sendirian Berhad, will discuss 9 themes, namely Brunei Communication Hub, Crowd funding, intelligent Emergency Response, Talent Search Centre, Interactive/Dynamic Open Data Platform, Property Guide, Public Transportation, Local Tourism and Brunei Fitness. More than 150 participants are already signed up for the competition in order to win prizes including a grant of up to twenty thousand dollars (BND).
