2 Suspects Detained To Assist Investigation on Viral Text Messages

Following viral text messages via social media about the illegal entry of foreign nationals into the country through mouse trails, via land and sea, the Royal Brunei Police Force stressed that the viral information is FALSE AND NOT VALID. Senior Superintendent of Police Haji Azree bin Haji Abdul Manaf, Acting Director of Crime Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force said the police through the Bandar Seri Begawan Police Station is carrying out an investigation and has detained 2 suspects, a local man and woman to assist them in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 505, Penal Code Chapter 22 - Statements conducting to public mischief. If found guilty, the offender shall be sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and a fine. It is also investigated under Section 34, Public Order Act, Chapter 148 - Dissemination of false report. If in default, it is liable to be sentenced to 3 years imprisonment and a fine.
