20th AsTEN Meeting in Bandung Discusses Strategic Initiatives and Future Conferences

Bandung: The 20th Association of Southeast Asian Teacher Education Network (AsTEN) meeting and conference recently took place in Bandung, Indonesia. The event, hosted by the Indonesian University of Education, focused on agendas related to the annual framework and strategic initiatives of AsTEN, aligning with the network’s direction through various platforms of its member institutions.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Associate Professor Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani, Ra’es of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB), represented the college at the meeting. Dr Abdul Nasir attended as the Deputy Chair of AsTEN. A significant topic of discussion was the new participation of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) through the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) as an AsTEN member starting January 2026, with membership lasting three years. The meeting also confirmed the Philippines Normal University as the host for the 21st AsTEN Presidential Meeting in May 2026 and Kasetsart University for the 22nd AsTEN Presidential Meeting.

The Indonesian University of Education also organized the International Conference on Teacher Education 2025 (ICOTE 2025), which was attended by Associate Professor Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani. The conference, under the theme ‘Reimagining Teacher Education: Equity, Innovation, and Sustainability,’ focused on fostering innovative pedagogies and AI adaptability. The participation of KUPU SB academics in the conference is set to enhance research collaboration networks.
