The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Thursday reminded importers and dealers to exercise strict and prompt compliance with customs laws and regulations in the country following the seizure of 51 high-end vehicles displayed in a showroom in Pasig City. In a statement, BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said all importers must "faithfully and promptly fulfill their duties" to ensure fair and responsible trade in the country. "Our primary goal is to protect the interests of the Filipino people, safeguarding the nation's revenue, and maintaining a fair and transparent trade environment," he said. The seizure on Wednesday stemmed from the owners' failure to submit evidence of payment of correct duties and taxes. Prior to this, the said owners were given 15 days to comply after the BOC served a letter of authority last July 4. However, they were only able to submit registration documents. To date, 28 of the 51 seized high-end motor vehicles were already brought to BOC-Port of Manila. The other 23 high-end vehicles, meanwhile, are scheduled to be transferred.
