39th ASEAN Port Association Working Committee Meeting

The Marine department and Ports department has merged together as a statutory body known as the Maritime and Ports Authority of Brunei Darussalam, which is responsible for promoting the use and development of the ports. It also acts as the national body representative of Brunei Darussalam in respect of sea transport, marine and port matters to promote efficiency and reliability on the part of public licensees in accordance with recognised international standards and public demand. The matter was stated by Haji Mohd Salihin bin Haji Aspar, Chief Executive of Maritime and Ports Authority of Brunei Darussalam at the opening ceremony of the 39th ASEAN Port Association, APA Working Committee Meeting yesterday morning.

Haji Mohd Salihin said it is predominant for the region to develop the ASEAN Ports in parallel to create ports that can guarantee safety, protection of the maritime environment and benefits to the community. He added that developing ASEAN ports not only helps the region to be more competitive but also contribute to the increase in intra-regional trade and attract investments. The two-day meeting is attended by delegates comprised of government officials and representatives of ASEAN port officials. The meeting aims to strengthen ties among APA members and enable the authorities to enhance capabilities in keeping up with the changing global trade.
