55-Hectre Land is expected to Increase Output to 7,000 Cattle by 2020

PDS Abattoir Sendirian Berhad is the largest contributor in the gross output for beef in the country. The overall estimated value for the local beef industry last year was at 21.48 million dollars. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism made a visit to the company's project site yesterday afternoon at the Batang Mitus Agricultural Development Area in Tutong District.

Through the 55-hectare land allocation, the company will further expand its cattle farming activities and increase its output to 7,000 cattle by 2020 through the feedlot system. This method can help to reduce costs and allow consumers to have access to quality and fresh beef in the country.

PDS Abattoir Sendirian Berhad is government-linked company, with Darussalam Assets Sendirian Berhad as the majority shareholder. Currently the feedlot system is under construction and napier grass is planted at the project site. The company has been operational since 1996 at the Batang Mitus Agricultural Development Area over a 2-hectare land. At the moment, the company's output capacity is between 3 to 4 thousand cattle per year.

With the land allocation, it is hoped that it can generate job opportunities to the locals to ensure that the beef supply is halal and clean for local consumers, and at the same time, assist in stabilising the sale prices of beef at local markets.
