A.I. Misuse Can Be a ‘Virus’, Warns Brunei’s Sultan

Bandar Seri Begawan: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has issued a cautionary reminder about the potential dangers of Artificial Intelligence if misused. His Majesty warned that AI could act as a ‘virus’ spreading internally, potentially poisoning thoughts, confusing minds, and distorting one’s faith if exploited by any parties. Despite these concerns, His Majesty expressed confidence in Brunei Darussalam’s ability to maintain stability and ensure smooth development without disruptions.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Sultan delivered this message during his Titah in conjunction with the nationwide broadcast of the 1447 Ilal Hijrah New Year Celebration. His Majesty began by expressing gratitude to Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala for allowing the country to celebrate the New Year in joy and comfort. He expressed hope that the New Hijrah Year would bring blessings, peace, and prosperity to all citizens and residents at every level.
