24 participants comprising academics, Shariah advisors, food industry practitioners and individuals attend the 2-day Animal Welfare and Slaughtering Workshop. Organised by the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA, it is one of the efforts to raise awareness and understanding on animal management and slaughtering among the general public.
Yesterday, the workshop was held at Golden Chick Abattoir Sendirian Berhad in Kampung Pangkalan Batu. The delegation from UNISSA was led by Doctor Zeiad Amjad Abdulrazzak Aghwan, lecturer of the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre, who is also the workshop facilitator.
The workshop among others aimed to raise awareness on animal welfare before and during slaughtering, apart from explaining the difference between halal pre-slaughtering and traditional as well as highlighting the concept Thayyiban. At the workshop, the participants were taught on proper slaughtering method and processing the meat in accordance to Islam.
