The ASEAN Green Hotel Award is ASEAN's initiative to promote sustainable tourism in ASEAN through environmental-friendly and energy conservation practices. The standard for the awards comprises an important element of the Green Hotel Operation namely environmental plans, Green product, human resource and environmental management. Meanwhile, the ASEAN Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition, MICE, Venue is one of the developing sector in the ASEAN countries which comprises 3 main criteria namely the physical environment, technology and services.
The ASEAN Green Hotel Award and ASEAN MICE Venue Award are giving appreciation and recognition in the ASEAN level to the relevant parties who meet the standards that can be applied by ASEAN member countries in the tourism sector. During the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam has received several awards. The ASEAN Green Hotel Award was awarded to the Ulu-Ulu Resort in Temburong and Radisson Hotel, ASEAN MICE Venue Award was awarded to Radisson Hotel, V-Plaza Hotel in Kuala Belait and the Empire Hotel and Country Club, while the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award was awarded to Bandar Seri Begawan.
Meanwhile an interview with RTB, the Special Duties Officer Grade One of the Department of Tourism Development, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism has said that the selection of the awards' recipient are based on several criteria.
