National development, public housing and land use issues were among the matters discussed during the bilateral meeting between Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, the Minister of Development and His Excellency Mr Lawrence Wong, the Minister of National Development of Singapore. Yang Berhormat is in the Republic of Singapore to attend the Singapore International Water Week, SIWW, which will be held until this Thursday. The bilateral meeting was held prior to the official opening of SIWW.
During the bilateral meeting, both sides also discussed the intention for exchange programmes in the near future. The Ministry of Development Brunei and the Ministry of National Development Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2015 to promote exchanges of information and cooperation between the two Government agencies.
The Minister of Development also held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Masagos Zulkifli, the Minister of Environment and Water Resources of Singapore. Both ministers discussed views on environmental and water issues of mutual interest and also updated the progress in areas of collaboration and joint activities in the area of air quality monitoring, water resources management and environmental youth exchange.
Under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Partnership in Environmental Affairs between Brunei and Singapore, meetings and exchanges on environmental programmes ranging from solid waste management, air quality, water resources management and environmental education are held annually. Accompanying the Minister of Development are Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, the Permanent Secretary of Technical and Professional at the Ministry of Development and Awang Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Haji Zakaria, the Director General of Public Works Department as well as officers from the Department of Water Services and Department of Drainage and Sewerage.
