Brunei and Malaysia Strengthen Ties at 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation

Putrajaya: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, met with Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, as part of the 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation. The meeting took place at the Seri Perdana Complex on August 27, 2025, with His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen accompanying His Majesty.

According to Radio Television Brunei, upon His Majesty’s arrival, he was greeted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and treated to a cultural performance. His Majesty also signed the visitor’s book before joining the Prime Minister for an official photograph session.

The consultation commenced with both leaders observing the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on health cooperation between Brunei and Malaysia. Representing Brunei was Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, while Malaysia was represented by its Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Dr. Haji Dzulkefly bin Ahmad.

During the Four-Eye Meeting, His Majesty and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim discussed the status of bilateral relations, focusing on the progress of the 2009 Exchange of Letters agreement and addressing regional and international issues of shared interest.

The event concluded with an Official Luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The Annual Leaders’ Consultation, initiated in 1997, serves as a crucial platform for Brunei and Malaysia to evaluate current collaborations and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
