Brunei Darussalam Commits to Biodiversity Conservation Efforts

Brunei darussalam: Brunei Darussalam, as a committed participant in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), has reaffirmed its dedication to biodiversity conservation through the implementation of its National Biodiversity Policy and Strategic Action Plan 2024-2030. The framework is designed to transform global biodiversity commitments into actionable strategies within the nation. This was highlighted by the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, in a message marking the International Day for Biological Diversity. The Minister emphasized that these conservation efforts are vital not only for the sustainability of Brunei's natural resources but also for enhancing the well-being of its citizens, strengthening environmental resilience, and promoting economic growth, all aligned with the goals of Wawasan Brunei 2035.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, spearheading biodiversity conservation, continues to implement various measures under existing laws and policies through the Forestry Department. These efforts are supported by active and coordinated forest patrols conducted in collaboration with enforcement agencies to monitor and curb illegal activities.

The involvement of youth is also highlighted as a crucial component in building a sustainable future. Educational institutions, youth organizations, and community groups play a significant role in promoting environmental stewardship and civic responsibility. The theme for this year's celebration, 'Acting Locally for Global Impact,' emphasizes the significance of local collective actions in tackling global environmental challenges.
