Bandar Seri Begawan: The signing of the Joint-Venture Agreement, Land Lease Agreement, and Power Purchase Agreement for a 30 Mega Watt Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant in Kampong Belimbing Subok represents a major development in Brunei Darussalam’s Renewable Energy sector. The project is the largest government-led solar initiative through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), underscoring the country’s progress in integrating low carbon energy sources and its commitment to decarbonisation. The signing event was held at the Prime Minister’s Office on the afternoon of June 14.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the signing ceremony was attended by key government officials, including Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy. The solar power plant is expected to enhance Brunei’s renewable energy capacity substantially, contributing to the national goal of increasing the share of renewable energy to at least 30 percent of the total installed capacity mix by 2035.
