University Brunei Darussalam (UBD) officiated its ‘Career 101’ exhibition at the Student Centre yesterday. The event was officiated by Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee, Head of Higher Education Division at the Ministry of Education.
Organised by the Centre of Networking, Employment and Career Training (CoNect) and Office of Alumni Relations and Advancements (OARA), the event has companies and establishments such as the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Goh Hock Kee Motors Sdn Bhd, Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), DST Group, Baiduri Bank QAF Brunei, Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, Mix Media Worx and others participating in it.
The ALA Insurance Company is the main sponsor of the event, while Aewon Brunei sponsored the event’s official t-shirt. In opening remarks by Lim Kok Shien, Deputy Director for OARA, UBD, he said that Career 101 is one of the initiatives of UBD to give support to the Titah made by
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in elevating the international standard of the university and increasing the marketability of its graduates.
The three-day event will incorporate knowledge/information sharing sessions on leadership, public speaking and career development, entrepreneurship and business development, which will be presented by Lim Hong Huat, the Director ofJPKE, Brunei Economic Development Board (BEBD); Albert Hwong of BAG Networks, Khairul Anwar Sabir of Dot Root Technology; Cikgu Haji Ali Yusri bin Abdul Ghafor and Robert Young who will be representing AIA Insurance Company.
Career 101, an event which has been dormant for about 10 years, also aims to prepare graduates with the ‘soft’ skills required in today’s competitive industries such as writing good curriculum vitaes, performing well in job interviews, have skills such as leadership, teamwork capabilities and adaptability among others.
Career 101 was reinstated last year with the theme Right Career, Bright Future’ and is considered one of the biggest events organised by the graduates’ association.
The exhibition is also opened to the public and is giving support to both government and non-government agencies to develop local workforce via career ladders, developmental plans and apprenticeship programmes in order to achieve Vision 2035.
