Cleaning Campaign

1,103.28 kilogrammes of garbage were collected during the cleaning campaign in conjunction with the celebration commemorating the 53rd Anniversary of the Name Change from Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan, 11th November morning. Organised by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, the campaign also involved coordination with several government agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department; the Public Works Department; the Department of Environment, Park and Recreation as well as building owners, tenants of business premises and various Non-Governmental Associations.

The campaign was launched by Awang Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan, Permanent Secretary for Municipality and District at the Ministry of Home Affairs as Chairman of the Action Group for Legal and Enforcement, Steering Committee on Cleanliness Issues, JIIK and Awang Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health as Chairman of the Action Group for Stakeholder's Awareness and Stewardship, JIIK. The inauguration of cleanliness signboards was also held. Earlier, the campaign commenced with the presentation of certificates to representatives of Green Brunei and Zero Waste Brunei.

The campaign covered the area along Menglait Riverbank from the Promenade area of the Menglait River Gadong to Dayang Siti Hamidah Bridge, Gadong and the surrounding area. The campaign is hoped to raise public awareness on the importance of maintaining cleanliness to ensure that the capital is always clean and free from any pollution.
