Combating Trafficking In Persons Conference

Human trafficking is becoming more and more prevalent. Globally, it is the second largest type of criminal activity, exceeded only by the illegal drug trade. In recent years, there has been an increasing occurrence of trafficking in persons in every part of the world, and it has become a global trend on which our region is not immune. Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, member of the Legislative Council stated the matter in his keynote address during the launch of the 'Combating Trafficking in Persons' Conference. The event was held yesterday morning at University of Brunei Darussalam.

Also present was His Excellency (Retired) Air vice Marshal Mahmud Hussain, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam. The Conference aims to strengthen the network's ability to combat trafficking in persons, including protecting our youth from exploitation, preventing Brunei to be the destination for trafficking in persons, misuse of the internet and other forms of human exploitation. The two-day conference was organised by Youth against Slavery Brunei, YAS Brunei, in conjunction with the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
