Concept Of Mosque Parish Cooperative Should Be Extended To ASEAN Region

KUANTAN, March 6 (Bernama) -- The concept of the mosque parish cooperative should be extended not just to the whole country, but also to the Asean region as it has many benefits for the members.

ASEAN Cooperative Organisation (ACO) chairman, Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah said as of now, many Asean nations including Indonesia, Brunei, Laos and Thailand had shown interest in setting up such cooperatives.

"Most Asean nations have cooperatives, but these are based on activities such as credit or loans while the advantage of the mosque parish cooperative is that it is based on activities involving the local community," said Abdul Fattah, who is also National Cooperative Movement of Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa) president.

"Through such a cooperative, many activities could be held such as retailing, wholesaling, and running nurseries, kindergartens and religious classes," he said at a press conference, here, Sunday.
