The students will undergo a four-month structured internship programme under the supervision of Piper senior engineers with vast experience in aviation engineering.
In the first phase of the internship, the students will be exposed to the manufacturing methods and techniques utilized in the manufacture of general aviation airplanes, as well as the administrative process controls that are in place to support the manufacturing environment process.
In the second phase, students will be assigned to a functional engineering group within the engineering division of Piper. The students will be familiarized with industry and proprietary standards for design and drafting of aerospace hardware, with blueprint/drawing generation and proprietary process specifications.
In the final phase, students will be ready to generate general aviation aircraft designs utilizing manual drafting and CAD methods. They will work in a multifaceted technical team who will also be providing training in design for manufacturing and assembly.
UTB Experience PLUS programme provides a platform to extend students' experience beyond the walls of academia. It is structured into the University's four-year undergraduate programmes and provides opportunities for all undergraduate students to partake in work attachment in local or overseas institutions to enhance their experiential learning and facilitate the attainment of life skills. In order to participate in a fully-funded overseas internship, students must demonstrate a high standard of academic performance and be in the top 10% of the cohort.
