His Majesty to Attend Asia-Pacific Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Republic of Korea

Gyeongju: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) scheduled to take place from 31st October to 1st November 2025 in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Republic of Korea is hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for the year 2025 under the theme ‘Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper’. The AELM is the highlight of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) and marks the conclusion of the Republic of Korea’s term as APEC host. Established in 1989, APEC aims to foster sustainable economic growth and strengthen economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region. The organization focuses on promoting a free, open, fair, non-discriminatory, transparent, and predictable trade and investment environment through close cooperation among regional economies.

APEC originally consisted of 12 founding economies and has since grown to include 21 member economies in the Asia-Pacific region. These members are Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Republic of the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Viet Nam. The Republic of Korea previously hosted APEC in 2005, with the AELM held in Busan.
