Hospital Attendant Faces 31 Corruption Charges for Overtime Claim Fraud

Bandar Seri Begawan: The Public Prosecutor has filed 31 charges against an attendant at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital under Section 6(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131. The charges were brought in the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrates' Court, alleging that the attendant intentionally used overtime claims to deceive the Ministry of Health.

According to Radio Television Brunei, investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that Nur Illyani Binti Haji Abd Kahar submitted 31 overtime claim documents between 18th February 2015 and 17th September 2019. These misrepresented claims led the Treasury Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economy to process and disburse payments to the Defendant. Nur Illyani Binti Haji Abd Kahar has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court has scheduled the case to be adjourned to 15th May 2025 for the trial dates to be set. Section 6(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act states that it is an offence to knowingly use a document containing a false statement with the intent to deceive one's principal, which is punishable by a fine and imprisonment of up to 7 years.
