Bandar Seri Begawan: An individual has been fined for littering at the Pasar Pelbagai Barangan in Gadong, as the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) reinforces the importance of maintaining cleanliness and environmental responsibility. The offender, identified as Kirno, was penalized with a $100 fine for disposing of a cigarette butt in the area.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Kirno has been given a deadline of seven days to pay the fine or face prosecution in court. Should he be found guilty in court, the penalties for the first offence could include a fine not exceeding $1,000. For any subsequent offences, the penalties increase significantly, with fines ranging from a minimum of $3,000 to a maximum of $9,000, or imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
This action is part of the enforcement of the Miscellaneous Offences Act 2021, which aims to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility among the public and businesses. The Department continues to urge the community to adhere to these regulations to avoid such penalties and contribute to a cleaner environment.
