Brunei Darussalam celebrates ASEAN's 50th Anniversary last night with the launching of the Lighting-up of the ASEAN Landmark in Bandar Seri Begawan. The launching ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohamad Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, as the Chairman of ASEAN Ministers responsible for Culture and ARTS (AMCA) 2016-2017.
Earlier, the launching ceremony began with a colourful march past by the Prisons Department band, followed by flag-bearers of ASEAN countries comprising former National Service Programme, PKBN trainees, 50 former participants of the Southeast Asian Youth Ship carrying lanterns and a ride-past of 50 bicycles from the sixties.
The ceremony was also enlivened with a cultural performance held at the stage in front of the Royal Regalia building. Also present were Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohammad Yusof, the Acting Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Since its establishment in 1967, ASEAN has provided many benefits and opportunities to the community in various aspects including socio-economic. This is exactly as it is felt by the community.
