Leaders Agree To Pursue the Promotion of Stability in All Dimensions

In concluding the 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, all Heads of State and Government of ASEAN Member States as well as leaders of Dialogue Partnership have released a joint statement. His Excellency Retired General Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand as the Chairman of ASEAN at the press conference of the 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits last night underlined that Thailand places a priority on partnerships in promoting ASEAN's sustainability. All 9 Summits, including the ASEAN Summit and Summits with important dialogue partners, explained His Excellency, concluded successfully, demonstrating ASEAN's leading role and centrality in the regional architecture, and ASEAN's role as a bridge between various countries under circumstances where there are geopolitical changes, competition and confrontation between major powers as well as trade tensions.

The Chairman of ASEAN, the leaders agreed to pursue the promotion of stability in all dimensions in the region. The ASEAN Leaders discussed on how to further pursue the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific through win-win cooperation activities and projects based on the principles of the 3Ms, namely, mutual trust, mutual respect, and mutual benefit. The leaders discussed the regional developments and saw the need to maintain the dynamics in our discussions to resolve various challenges through peaceful means. In the joint statement, the leaders also committed to collectively address security challenges, especially transnational crimes, through enhanced cooperation on border management and cybersecurity to promote an open, secure, and stable cyberspace.

All leaders saw sustainable security as a complementary towards the dynamic economic progress. That is why ASEAN is committed to pursuing concrete deliverables on economic issues.

ASEAN Leaders discussed cooperation with external parties to further enhance sustainable human security, in particular, in the areas of marine debris, climate change, natural disasters, transboundary haze, promotion of rights and child's education. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding between ASEAN and FIFA was signed on 2nd of this month to promote development of football in ASEAN, which would support ASEAN's joint bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034. The Leaders joined hands in pursuing the ASEAN Leaders' Vision Statement on Partnership for Sustainability. External Parties have expressed their readiness to support ASEAN in promoting sustainability through the Complementarities Roadmap to promote complementarities between the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
