Malay Culture Seminar Launching Ceremony

Info-technologies are capable of disseminating information or knowledge at a faster rate up to a point that it can be shared throughout the world. Jurnal Beriga, published by the Language and Literature Bureau, should be capable of attracting the attention of the public for its survival against new media. Editors need to think critically and creatively as they write for the journal to leave an impact to readers. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Rahim, member of the Legislative Council highlighted the matter at the Malay Culture Seminar launch in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Jurnal Beriga's publication.

According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, Jurnal Beriga should be given due attention to increase the number of readers of the journal. Efforts to promote the journal should be doubled, be it through print or mass media, to spread information on the journal's publication from time to time. Yang Berhormat Pehin added that maintaining the publication of reading materials, especially the academically-inclined Jurnal Beriga is not an easy feat especially with the presence of info-technology today.

With the theme 'Beriga, Medan Penyebaran Ilmu dan Budaya', or Beriga, Platform for Knowledge and Culture Dissemination, the Malay Culture Seminar focused on the journal's capability to survive for five decades as a platform to interact with the society through research-based writing in various fields. One of the working papers presented at the Seminar was by Awang Haji Mohd Rozan bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos with the title 'Manifestasi Budaya Dalam Reka Bentuk Mata Wang Brunei Dari Abad ke 16'. The working paper introduces the use of currency as a whole, by observing the history of its development and the technology in producing paper notes and coins.
