In line with the role of the Municipal Board's Chairmen and its members as the 'intellects of change', their contribution and involvement is hoped to continue to be improved and be more committed, dedicated and with more creative ideas, initiative and substantive, as well as able to envision and plan realistic changes with the aim to create a sustainable town development. This is by providing improved infrastructures and facilities, healthy and customer-friendly business environment, clean, comfortable and safe environment for city dwellers and for those who have business in the city in general, and in Brunei Darussalam as a whole.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs made the reminded at the Discussion and Meeting session with the Municipal Board's Chairmen and its member's yesterday morning. Yang Berhormat Pehin also highlighted the importance of giving serious attention towards the titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the New Year 2018 in three main matters namely the glorious moment of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne, the Wawasan Brunei 20-35, as well as close cooperation from all parties. In the Monarch's titah, stressed Yang Berhormat, there is a need to make it as a guide in carrying out duties and responsibilities to bring about prosperity and harmony in the country.
According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, in remembering the momentous occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne, the Monarch gave his thanks and appreciation to all parties involved, either directly or indirectly, in making a success of the Golden Jubilee celebration and all events lined up. His Majesty in his titah also said that the joyousness of the celebration by all citizens and residents including foreign visitors, reflect the harmonious community living in the country which must be maintained so that the country continues to be peaceful and prosperous for the coming generations.
The target period of Wawasan Brunei 2035 becomes shorter from year to year, and our responsibility becomes bigger in ensuring that we do not deviate from the set path, until we achieve the 'Brunei Maju' or Progressive Brunei objective. In upholding the objective, the country need to work closely with the government, private sector and the people in general. Yang Berhormat Pehin added, that the monarch stressed that close cooperation of all parties is needed, as such cooperation will make the business and entrepreneurship climate be much easier, and at the same make the country become more attractive to foreign investors.
Yang Berhormat also touched on the Bandar Seri Begawan's achievement in the internationally arena. According to studies by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Bandar Seri Begawan is ranked 100 in the 'Global Ranking of Most Liveable Cities' and 'Southeast Asia's Third Most Liveable City' after Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Yang Berhormat Pehin said that the achievement is based on infrastructure development. The efforts of stakeholder agencies is greatly appreciated, and the Minister is positive that such achievement will act as a catalyst to the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Board specifically and other Municipal Boards to maintain sustainability and competitiveness at their respective municipal area.
