Ministry Of Health Provides Referral Services for Mental Health

One out of five people could be experiencing mental health problems in life. The Ministry of Health says mental health a situation where a person is aware of his or her potential to react and respond to stress in life, work productively and contribute to society. Mental health refers to how one thinks, feels and acts and well as how to face any problem, solve it and interact with other people.

Several measures can be taken to reduce the risk of the problem. They include being calm, positive, practise a healthy lifestyle, learn how to manage stress effectively besides having good social support. In this country, if a person needs assistance, the Ministry of Health provides referral services such as the Psychological Clinical Service at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital and the Community Psychological clinic in Kampung Anggerek Desa.

Adolescents and adults are groups who experience many changes in life. During these periods, people learn about the true meaning of life that sometimes also brings excessive pressures, fear and worries. If these are not identified and controlled at an early stage, they could cause mental health problems. Awang Ahmad Zahid bin Muhammad Daud, a Psychologist says many people shun the service because of the negative perception towards mental health. Family members or friends are often the first to recognise the early symptoms of mental health. If a patient requires professional help, a doctor or psychologist is available for consultation at the walk-in clinics during office hours.

The Psychologist added to maintain mental health, one should get sufficient rest, eat healthy food and exercise regularly. Awang Ahmad Zahid adds collective efforts by all members of the community can give a positive impact in solving mental health issues.
