The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Department of Community Development, in cooperation with the Hearing Impaired Association, yesterday afternoon held a Basic Sign Language Workshop for members of the Tutong District Village Consultative Councils and Senior Citizens Activity Centre. Held in conjunction with the International Day of Older Persons, it took place at Dewan Seri Kenangan, Tutong Civic Centre Complex.
The launch was officiated by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Abdul Wahab bin Apong, member of the Legislative Council as the Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Pekan Tutong. Dayang Irnawati binti Haji Mahir, Acting Head of the Differently Abled Section in her opening remarks touched on using sign language which is a permanent skill for each individual.
The function was highlighted with a sketch entitled "Pengetahuan Bahasa Isyarat" or Knowledge of Sign Language by the workshop's participants. 54 people took part in the 3 day workshop which is held until this Thursday. A similar workshop will be held in the Brunei Muara District this December.
