More than 600 cases of specific cancer diseases have been treated by the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre, PJSC through Radiotherapy Department where a highly skilled clinical team utilised highly advanced equipment and tailor-made techniques to treat specific cancer diseases. This was stated by Doctor Mazrul bin Awang Haji Besar, the Executive director of PJSC, at a press conference, yesterday morning.
Also in-attendance during the press conference were Dato Seri Laila Jasa Doctor Babu Sukumaran, the Medical Director of PJSC as Director of The Brunei Cancer Centre, TBCC and Doctor Jamsari bin Khalid, Consultant Radiation Oncologist and Head of Radiotherapy Department. The press conference shared on the latest development and services provided by the department. Under the purview of TBCC, members of panel expressed their pride in making headway in the field of Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy.
Armed with two new accelerators and equipment, a Ct-simulator as well as 3D treatment planning system, the department also conducts radio surgical treatment that is frameless, non-invasive, fast and accurate. In the past, it would have taken more than 2 hours to perform the treatment on the patient. However, with the new technology provided at PJSC, the treatment normally takes 5 to 10 minutes. Due to this advancement, the number of patient cases sent overseas for treatment has tremendously dropped.
