The relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Japan is based on strong economic relations, such as investments in Brunei by Japanese companies and exports from Brunei to Japan. Brunei has supported Japan's energy security by providing them with significant amounts of Liquefied Natural Gas for over the last 40 years. His Excellency Motohiko Kato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam made the remarks at a reception on the occasion of the 84th Birthday Celebration of His Imperial Majesty Akihito, Emperor of Japan, last night.
Representing the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the reception was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education.
His Excellency Motohiko Kato expressed his appreciation for Brunei's efforts as the ASEAN Coordinating country for Japan from the year 2015 to 2018. His Excellency also expressed his gratefulness to all of the people involved in the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association who have been working hard to promote exchange programs between the countries. Also present was Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education.
