Bandar seri begawan: Brunei Darussalam is eager to work closely with the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and other ASEAN Member States to advance shared aspirations for a stronger and more united ASEAN. This was emphasized by the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs during a reception commemorating the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste’s admission into ASEAN. The event took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas on the night of November 10th.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof remarked that Brunei Darussalam, like Timor-Leste, is a small nation surrounded by larger neighbors. He noted the significance of belonging to a regional community that offers friendship, stability, and collective strength, particularly in the face of growing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
Earlier in the evening, His Excellency Abel Guterres, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Brunei, expressed gratitude towards His Majesty’s Government for their friendship and strong support throughout Timor-Leste’s journey as a nation. Among the attendees was His Excellency Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, the Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei.
