Bandar seri begawan: The Kampong Panchor Mengkubau National Housing Scheme Consultative Council is now spotlighting Rempeyek, a deep-fried savory cracker, as part of its One Village One Product (1K1P) initiative. Previously, the program highlighted products like Frozen Pandan Chicken and Kelupis Pandan.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the traditionally produced Rempeyek has been receiving increased attention in the village. Entrepreneur Dayang Norainah binti Malik, who inherited the family recipe, has turned the sale of Rempeyek into a source of income. She anticipates expanding her business to include the production of door-gifts for various occasions.
Awang Haji Hairul Azri bin Haji Salamat, the Acting Village Head, pointed out that Rempeyek was chosen as a 1K1P product due to its ease of production, low cost, and potential for generating income. The Brunei Muara District Office and other departments have supported the initiative, encouraging residents to participate in sales expos to further develop the product.
The Tiga-P strategy-Manufacturing, Marketing, and Production-has been emphasized for Rempeyek, aiming to provide job opportunities for village residents. It also serves as a means of income for single mothers and underprivileged families in RPN Kampung Panchor Mengkubau.
