The slogan, 'the mosque is not only a place or worship and centre of religion but also a venue for spreading knowledge as well as a community centre' will be meaningless if the Takmir committee and its members do not enliven the mosque and organise activities related to religion, knowledge and the community. The matter was raised by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs during the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Kampung Bunut Mosque last night.
Yang Berhormat Pehin called for more programmes to be organised at mosques which cover knowledge and the community so that the local community can witness and feel the impact, especially among the mosque congregants. The Minister recommended activities such as tuition for school children in the village, especially those from the unprivileged families. Yang Berhormat Pehin also suggested programmes to help the needy and families with problems by mobilising volunteers comprising youth and Muslimahs.
The celebration began with the mass Maghrib prayer and Khatam Al-Quran ceremony in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee. 25 people participated with the Minister of Religious Affairs leading the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah. The event continued with the presentation of souvenirs to the mosque's former Imams or prayer leaders. The Kampung Bunut mosque was officially opened by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on 16 July 1993 and during its 25 years achieved several outstanding accomplishments through activities organised by the Mosque Takmir committee as well as mosque youths and Muslimahs.
