Bandar seri begawan: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam awarded the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan’s Scholar for the 2025/2026 academic session to five outstanding students at a ceremony held at Istana Nurul Iman. The event, which took place on the afternoon of September 4th, was graced by the presence of His Majesty’s sons, including Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Prince ‘Abdul Malik, and Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by the State Mufti, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned. The prestigious Sultan’s Scholar scholarship was conferred upon five students, enabling them to pursue their Bachelor’s Degree in various fields. The first recipient, Awangku Muhammad Eljaz Mateen bin Pengiran Muhammad Khairul Nizam, will study Physics at University College London in the United Kingdom.
Awang Ahmad Danish Hakimi bin Shufiady from International School Brunei will head to the University of Melbourne in Australia to major in Mathematics and Statistics as part of the Bachelor of Science program. The third recipient, Awang Muhammad Saedon bin Haji Sahralidin from Jerudong International School, will pursue a degree in Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics at Trinity College Dublin, University of Dublin in the Republic of Ireland.
Awang Muhammad Mughni bin Haji Mohd Salleh from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Qur’an Institute has been awarded the scholarship to study Takhassus Al-Qur’an Wal Qiraat at Al-Azhar University in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Finally, Dayang Dayana binti Adi Rani Soffian from Sekolah Tinggi Arab Hassanal Bolkiah will also attend Al-Azhar University to further her studies in Syariah Islamiyyah. The State Mufti concluded the ceremony with a Doa Selamat.
Since the inception of the scholarship in 2006, a total of 73 students have been honored with this prestigious award. The ceremony also saw the attendance of the Yayasan Committee of Governors, Yayasan Board of Directors, and the Yayasan Sultan’s Scholar Scholarship Scheme Steering Committee.
