The Country Is Experiencing Southwest Monsoon

Following the current occasional heavy showers and strong winds, members of the public including drivers and seafarer are advised to take necessary steps as well as precautions to everyone's safety.

Strong winds and heavy rains early yesterday has caused falling trees and damaged properties in Brunei Muara and Tutong districts. Meanwhile, no damage reported in Belait and Temburong District. According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds from the Southwest as well as rough sea up to 3 metre are expected at Brunei waters from Today to Friday. The department also issued an advisory whereby wind gust of up to 50 to 60 kilometres per hour is expected near or during heavy showers.

Heavy rains can cause water level to rise and risk of flash floods particularly at low land and flood prone areas. The southwest monsoon are influenced by Typhoon Maria which has landed in east China and low pressure system at the north point of South China Sea.
