The Junior Tilawah Al-Quran Scheme, STAR conducted by the Tilawah Al-Quran and Dikir Unit, Advanced Studies Guidance at the Islamic Studies Centre, is aimed to train and guide teenage youths in correct Al-Quran reading through the use of famous tilawah rhythms. In the Tutong District, such a scheme has a centre at Pengiran Anak Puteri Norain Religious School. Since its introduction in 1997, the scheme is capable of producing Junior Al-Quran readers with the potential as the next generation of qaris and qariahs who can reach national as well as international levels.
The two year scheme is held every Friday and Sunday. The students are trained and guided in Al-Quran reading using tilawah rhythms aside from being taught the tajweed theoretically and in practical, murattal reading techniques and others.
Dayang Hajah Noorlaila binti Haji Metusin, one of the teachers of the scheme explained the learning phases in the scheme which are reading Al-Quran with rhythm, followed by an examination in the second year. From there, they will be assessed whether they will move on to the Advanced or third year,
