Visit to Brunei-Australia Memorial Marks Commemoration of WWII Operation

Muara beach: The Prime Minister of Australia and his delegation commenced their working visit to the Brunei-Australia Memorial at Muara Beach on the afternoon of 14th April. The Honourable Anthony Albanese MP was warmly received by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, who is the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and the Second Minister of Defence.

According to Radio Television Brunei, accompanying the Australian Prime Minister was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, serving as the Minister-in-Attendance. The monument at Muara Beach was erected to honor the Australian Defence Forces' efforts in the successful liberation of Borneo during Operation OBOE in the Second World War. This operation is noted as the inception point of defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and Australia.
