Working Visit to the Agriculture Development Areas, Belait District

Members of the Knowledge Convention 2018 Steering and Working Committees made a working visit to the agriculture development areas in the Belait District. The visit was a continuation of a similar series of tours since July this year in collecting information and progresses on the agricultural activities in the district. The data will be used as a basis by the Knowledge Convention 2018 which focuses on the economic growth and related agricultural projects.

The delegation was joined by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism as the Co-Chairman of the Steering Committee; Dato Seri Paduka Awang Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, the Deputy Minister of Energy (in Energy and Manpower) and Industry as the Vice Co-Chairman of the Steering Committee; and Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @Maidin, the Deputy State Mufti. Their first stop was the Ladang Syarikat Warisan Jasa in Kampung Rampayoh. Owned by Datin Hajah Hazizah binti Hj Adam, the company carries out paddy-planting, fruits plantation, fresh water fish farming, goats and ducks rearing. Their next destination was the Syarikat Pertanian Tropikal Utama. The company owns a 19-hectare piece of land at the Rampayoh Agricultural Development Area in Mukim Labi. Apart from producing different types of fruits and vegetables, the company also ventures into the coffee plantation. The paddy plantation of the KKP Lot Sengkuang was also visited by the delegation. The farm is managed jointly by several residents of Mukim Labi. It is one of the largest paddy-farming in the Belait District. Covering an area of about 300 hectares, the KKP Lot Sengkuang is a major rice producer in Belait. The delegates’ next stop was the Syarikat Asia Enterprise at Jalan Singap in Kampung Merangking, Mukim Bukit Sawat. Covering an area of 20 hectares, it is a pioneer project with more than 2,300 non-seasonal fruit trees. They also toured the Syarikat Marsya Farm in Sungai Liang, Mukim Sungai Liang. The company makes use of the 2-hectares piece of land by planting fruits using the hydroponics system and green house. Their last destination was the Syarikat Brugoat Farming and Trading Sendirian Berhad in Kampung Gana, Mukim Sungai Liang.
