Workshop Highlights Sustainable Environmental Planning for Coastal and Marine Development

Bandar Seri Begawan: Prioritising the protection of the coastal and marine environment as Brunei continues to develop is important, in line with one of the key indicators of Wawasan Brunei 2035, which is to ensure a sustainable environment. The matter was highlighted during the Workshop on Sustainable Environmental Planning for Coastal and Marine Development in Brunei Darussalam held at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Awang Haji Shaharuddin Khairul bin Haji Anuar, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure, Housing and Professional at the Ministry of Development, stressed the significant responsibility and opportunity held by project implementers, contractors, dredging and aquaculture operators to contribute to environmental protection. Their actions during project planning and execution would have direct and lasting impacts on the delicate coastal and marine ecosystems.

The workshop included a Keynote Presentation on the imperative for holistic and sustainable planning to build coastal resilience against impending climate change impacts. The workshop brought together diverse experts to share best practices, challenges, and opportunities in the crucial area of sustainable planning for the country's coastal and marine development.
