The yellowish water that the public has been complaining about is caused by murky water from Tutong River which is difficult to treat. In a media release, the Public Works Department, Ministry of Developement said the murkiness is due to a number of factors.
These factors cause high organic and mineral content in the river's raw water and contribute to high discolouration. However, the PWD is working to address the yellowish water issue by carrying out several operations so that the critical yellowish water parameter remains within the allowed limits stipulated by the World Health Organisation, W.H.O's guidelines. The department is also continuing routine monitoring of tests on water samples from several locations in Brunei Muara District as well as implementing continuous preventive measures to ensure the quality of clean water is consistent.
