8th AIPA Advisory Council Discusses Collective Efforts Against Drug Threat

Pahang: The role of parliaments in shaping effective policies and emphasizing collective cooperation among ASEAN countries to combat the persistent drug threat was the focus at the 8th AIPA Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs, AIPA-CODD Meeting. This two-day meeting took place in Pahang, Malaysia.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Legislative Council was represented by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman and Yang Berhormat Dayang Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abdul Salam, both Members of the Legislative Council. More than 50 representatives from ASEAN parliaments attended the meeting. Delegates exchanged views on regional challenges, with insights provided by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, ASEAN Senior Officials on Drugs Matters, and Malaysian law enforcement and health agencies.

The meeting also considered a draft resolution themed ‘Uniting Parliaments for an Inclusive and Sustainable ASEAN in Addressing Contemporary Drug Challenges’, which is set to be presented during the 46th AIPA General Assembly scheduled for September.
