Amil Members Appointed for Zakat Collection Across Brunei

Bandar seri begawan: 366 Amil members have been appointed by the Islamic Religious Council of Brunei Darussalam, MUIB, to oversee the collection of zakat, or tithe, in 142 designated areas throughout the country for the Hijrah years 1447 to 1448. The Amil Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held simultaneously in all four districts on the afternoon of February 18th.

According to Radio Television Brunei, in the Brunei Muara District, the Amil Certificates were presented by Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and Vice President of MUIB. Islamic financial institutions such as Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, along with companies like DST, Progresif, and Imagine, have been appointed as Amil to collect Zakat Harta, or property tithe, and Zakat Fitrah.

In the Tutong District, 60 new Amils were appointed to serve thirty areas. The certificates were presented by Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, Deputy State Mufti and MUIB member. The event was attended by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya'akub, Member of the Legislative Council, and Awang Haji Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri, Acting Tutong District Officer.

Meanwhile, in the Temburong District, certificates were presented by Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani bin Pengiran Haji Sallehuddin, Acting Secretary of MUIB. A total of 24 Amils were appointed for twelve areas. The ceremony was also attended by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir, Member of the Legislative Council, and Awang Hassan Baha bin Haji Umar, Acting Temburong District Officer.

In the Belait District, Doctor Haji Awang Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Awang Ahmad, Member of MUIB, presented the certificates to 22 Amils appointed for 16 areas. Zakat payments can be made at mosques, suraus, and religious halls nationwide, as well as at the service counters of the Department of Zakat, Waqf, and Baitulmal Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the department's branches in Belait, Tutong, and Temburong Districts.
