ASEAN Senior Officials Discuss New Cooperation Initiatives in Jerudong

Jerudong: ASEAN welcomed initiatives to explore new areas of cooperation that strengthen the existing and new relations. The statement was shared by the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office during the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting Responsible for Information (SOMRI) Plus Three. The meeting took place at a hotel in Jerudong.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Awang Ajman bin Haji Meludin, as Chair of SOM-RI, said that Brunei Darussalam has lauded the role of ASEAN's "Plus Three" comprising China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea as a cornerstone of ASEAN's external relations that has been instrumental in sustaining ASEAN's community development. Themed "Media Advancing Joint Understanding," or MAJU, it reflects ASEAN's commitment in pursuing strategic regional solutions for information and media cooperation.

The meeting continued with the Japan Plenary Session. During the session, the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office commended Japan's expertise and experience in the field of Artificial Intelligence which has huge potential for ASEAN to tap into. Awang Ajman said stronger collaboration could help ASEAN to quickly adapt and keep up with unprecedented concerns. He expressed appreciation to Japan for its ongoing support and contribution to ASEAN, both in terms of sharing skills as well as financial aid, to further cooperation under the information sector.
