Bandar Seri Begawan: The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, in collaboration with the Prime Minister's Office, has launched the ASEAN Training on Forest Carbon Accounting. This initiative, organized through the Forestry Department and the Brunei Climate Change Office, is supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation as part of the ASEAN-German Climate Action Programme. The training is set to continue until the 1st of May.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Awang Reni bin Haji Yahya, the Acting Director of Forestry, was present at the event. The training hosts 60 participants from ASEAN Member States, who have been nominated by the ASEAN Task Force on Peatlands (ATFP) and the ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change (AWGCC). These groups are responsible for overseeing carbon accounting in forests and peatlands, focusing on carbon markets, and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Additionally, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat are also attending.
The comprehensive training covers the entire project development cycle, from project design and baseline scenario development to validation, monitoring, and environmental and social impact assessment. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism's efforts through the Forestry Department. It also supports Brunei Darussalam's National Climate Change Policy strategies, emphasizing the importance of sustainable environmental practices.
