Brunei’s Initiative to Address Human-Crocodile Conflict through Community Briefing

Brunei Darussalam: The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, through its Wildlife Division and Forestry Department, has embarked on a nationwide initiative to tackle the escalating human-crocodile conflict within the country. As part of this initiative, a briefing focused on community-based crocodile conservation and conflict prevention was organized for village heads and community leaders from the Tutong District and Belait District on 23rd April 2025.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the briefing was attended by Members of the Legislative Council and aimed to educate participants on the significance of crocodiles in ecosystems and the prevention of human-crocodile conflicts. The session provided attendees with essential knowledge on crocodile management and sought to enhance preparedness among relevant agencies. Experts from the Wildlife Conservation Society, based in the United States, led the briefing, which was conducted in collaboration with the United States Embassy in Brunei.
