The Prime Minister revealed that the Cabinet has approved the budget for the economic stimulus project via digital wallets, in the form of 10,000 baht in cash for the disabled and vulnerable groups on 25 Sept. This is believed to stimulate the economy and confirm that it is in accordance with the law. Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, announced the results of the Cabinet meeting that the Cabinet has approved financial assistance to stimulate the economy in 2024 through 12.41 million state welfare cardholders and no more than 2.15 million disabled persons, totaling 10,000 baht per person, with payments to be made starting from September 25, 2024 onwards. Relevant agencies, including the Council of State, the Bank of Thailand, and the National Economic and Social Development Board, have agreed in principle and in accordance with the law in every respect. When asked about the second phase of the digital wallet project, the Prime Minister said that the Ministry of Finance will clarify and answer all questions regarding the digital wallet in depth. However, the first phase will be to stimulate the economy first. As for the second phase and subsequent phases, the Ministry of Finance will clarify the details. When asked whether the first phase, which was scaled down, had reported how much the economy would be stimulated, the Prime Minister said that overall, the vulnerable group, the first group to receive 10,000 baht, would spend a relatively high percentage.
