Berakas: The rebranding of the Fire and Rescue Department's Special Squad, now known as the Special Technical Rescue Assistant (SATREA), aligns with the standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This initiative marks the first step in equipping the team with Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) capabilities to achieve international recognition from the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Minister of Home Affairs announced that to ensure optimal operational preparedness, the Fire and Rescue Department will receive 10 fire engines equipped with Water Tender Ladders. This procurement is part of a larger 20-year rental lease contract involving 30 vehicles with a local company. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman highlighted this development at the Fire and Rescue Department's 65th-anniversary parade held at the department headquarters in Berakas.
Yang Berhormat emphasized the importance of these procurements in enhancing the department's ability to respond swiftly, especially in challenging locations with difficult accessibility. He further stressed the necessity for professionalism, resilience, integrity, and high discipline to be ingrained within the department, ensuring its continued excellence as a trusted frontline service for the people and the nation.
