Tutong: The Prisons Department celebrated its 71st anniversary with a parade event held at the Parade Ground of the Prisons Department's Training Centre in Tutong District. The Minister of Home Affairs emphasized the importance of the department's role in rehabilitating inmates by providing religious education, character-building, discipline, and vocational skills to nurture productive individuals through effective rehabilitation programmes.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, highlighted the necessity for the Prisons Department to adapt its strategies to meet current needs and challenges. He stressed the importance of continuing and strengthening rehabilitation programmes to ensure successful reintegration of inmates into society.
During the event, 81 officers and staff of the Prisons Department were recognized with the Excellent Employment Award for the years 2024 and 2025. Additionally, the department's Special Operations Unit conducted a demonstration showcasing the use of firearms in an emergency scenario.
